PONTIAC, Mich. -- Pontiac Mayor Walter Moore will soon found out whether he will get to keep his job or surrender the position to the police officer who finished ahead of him in last month's election.
Mayor-elect Willie Payne beat Moore in the Nov. 6 election by 69 votes. Payne received 5,019 votes, while Moore received 4,950 votes.
Payne, a longtime Pontiac police officer, came out of nowhere to beat the incumbent in a close race that was somewhat surprising to observers.
Moore immediately called for a recount, refusing to concede the election.
