Other Races Of Interest Throughout Metro Detroit
POSTED: Wednesday, November 9, 2005
Here are some other results of interest in races throughout metro Detroit:
Ferndale's medical marijuana proposal may have passed with 61 percent of the residents voting yes, while 39 percent did not want the proposal. The city joins Detroit and Ann Arbor, which approved medical marijuana use in 2004.
The focus on a controversial absentee ballot decision by Detroit City Clerk Jackie Currie may have cost her some votes. At 2:17 a.m., with 92 percent of the precincts reporting, Janice Winfrey was leading 90,049 to Currie's 80,326. Hardly anyone gave Winfrey a chance, but she could very well be the next clerk of Detroit.
The city of Livonia will most likely drop out of the SMART bus system. Results culled from the city of Livonia's Web site showed 10,690 voters saying Yes to dropping the SMART system, while 8,740 votes wanted to keep the system. Livonia officials said the tally was unofficial and has not been certified.
State Rep. Clarence Phillips unseated incumbent Willie Payne to become the new mayor of Pontiac. Phillips led the race with 72 percent over Payne's 28 percent.
