A major produce company is recalling a brand of spinach that has tested positive for contamination.
The spinach is under the label Metz Fresh, in both retail and food service packages.
The company is based in California and specializes in spinach.
The recalled products include 10-ounce and 16-ounce bags, as well as, 4-2.5-pound and 4-pound cartons.
The only Metz Fresh product affected is spinach that bears that tracking codes 12208114, 12208214, 12208314.
It was distributed in the United States and Canada.
There have been no reports of illness or problems related to this spinach.
The positive test came during independent lab testing Metz Fresh conducts on all of its products.
The company's president said testing has changed in the last year. He said his primary concern is for the consumer.
Salmonella can cause severe illnesses, including fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhea.
Most people recover in three to four days without medical intervention but it can be life-threatening.
Consumers are advised to throw away the product or return it to the place they purchased it for a full refund.
