The sixth annual American Cancer Society’s Cattle Baron’s Ball raised more than $650,000 for cancer research, education and patient services in metro Detroit.
WDIV sponsored Saturday evening’s event, along with General Motors.
The ball featured a western-themed cornucopia of food, live music, auctions and games for all.
The headline performer at the ball was country group Lonestar, best known for their cross-over hit “Amazed.”
Guests enjoyed more than $100,000 in delicious Texas-inspired spreads, donated by 25 of Detroit’s finest restaurants and caterers.
For the first time, culinary awards, the 2008 Chuck Wagon Awards, were given out at the ball.
The Hyatt Regency Dearborn won two awards for Best Sweet and Best Savory. Best in Show was a three-way tie between Carlson Catering, MGM Grand Detroit and Plum Market.
Even the guests got in on the competition when Collin and Debra Malcolm won for Best Dressed. Both winners were given gift certificates to Scott Colburn Boots and Western Wear.
