iPod For More Than Music

Doctors Say Technology May Help Health Conditions

POSTED: Tuesday, February 28, 2006

iPods can store hundreds of your favorite songs, but doctors say they may help with serious health problems.

Dr. Grayson Wheatley, cardiovascular surgeon, is the first to give his patients video iPods to hear and see information about diet, exercise and the heart. Programs also explain balloon angioplasty, stenting and show doctors performing bypass surgery, Local 4 reported.

"One of the biggest complaints with medicine is patients don't get enough time with their doctors, and the iPod can be an extension of time they get with their doctors," said Wheatley.

The idea of using the iPod is to allow patients the opportunity to watch important health information on their computer, or download it onto their iPod.

The videos are helpful, and owning an iPod isn't necessary -- the programs are also available online.

To try the program for free, go to www.cvmd.org.
