Holiday shopping hoopla: Free gifts from Help Me Hank

DETROIT – The Help Me Hank consumer unit is kicking off Black Friday with some exclusive offers for Local 4 viewers. We're teaming up with Somerset Collection to give away free gifts from some of the hottest, and one of the newest, stores in the mall.

Millions of Americans love to search for savings on Black Friday, but the day can be crowded, crazy, and chaotic. Wouldn't it be nice if you could save a few bucks or treat yourself?

When Help Me Hank approached Somerset about doing something special for shoppers, the mall jumped on board. Together, we came up with a limited number of free gifts to brighten someone's

Black Friday.

"Well everyone loves a game. Everyone loves a challenge, and it wouldn't be any fun if we gave it to everyone," said Linda McIntosh of Somerset Collection.

Here is a list of some of the items that are up for grabs among Local 4 viewers:

  • Crate and Barrel is handing out 24 beautiful, collector-item, Christmas ornaments.
  • The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is giving away 24 candy-covered apples. The winners will get to choose the delicious toppings they love.
  • Marbles The Brain Store is giving away 24 games for the young and young at heart. The game is called Tugie and retails for $24.99
  • The Gap is giving way 24 pairs of holiday socks and you'll find a Gap gift card inside, worth $24 dollars.

By now, you're probably noticing a theme. Why 24 items?

"Twenty is a very important number for us because next year we will be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Somerset Collection," said McIntosh.

Then, we added four more for Local 4!

Plus, there's another giveaway we're keeping a secret for now, but it's something any shopper would love, especially during the holidays.

Hay says her team gets the ball rolling, and other shoppers join in with all kinds of shopping information, "What deals are you finding, where to avoid, what to do on Cyber Monday, so it's still the hub of the whole shopping frenzy."

"The last couple of years shoppers have been really generous about giving tips and telling you who's in line and if it's crowded," said Lauren Weber of the blog Mrs. Weber's Neighborhood.
