Intersections Put 'Grinn' On Motorists Faces
State Farm Releases Top 5 List
RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif., 5:57 p.m. EDT July 6, 2001 -- State Farm Insurance company has come up with a list of the nation's top funniest intersections.
"Standing by themselves, individual street names aren't usually amusing," a State Farm spokesperson said. "But when they intersect with another street name, the two together can be pretty funny. So we decided to publish our list of 'The Five Funniest Intersection Names in America.'"
The "funny" list was announced two days after State Farm, the nation's largest auto insurer, distributed a list of the 10 most dangerous intersections in the U.S. based on crashes resulting in claims by its policyholders in 1999 and 2000.
Roads Ho and Hum intersect in Carefree, Arizona, and there's an intersection of Bland and Gore streets in Pueblo, Colorado.
When Antonio Parkway crosses Avenue de las Banderas in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, the sign tells you you're at the corner of Antonio Banderas.
In Harahan, Louisiana, Hickory and Dickory meet up with Dock street, and nearby Mouse Street just missed the list.
The humor is not lost on people who pass by the funny signs.
The township services director in West Chester, Ohio, says that people are always swiping the sign for Grinn and Barret drives.
He says they had to put up a new one for the State Farm photo.
"We suspect there are other funny and unusual intersection names among the hundreds of thousands of intersections in America," the State Farm spokesperson said. "We're hoping people will go to statefarm.com and let us know where they are."
