WASHINGTON -- President George W. Bush will be getting a new spokesman.
Ari Fleischer said "it's time to say goodbye."
He said it's his time to go, so he'll be stepping down from his post as White House press secretary in July. After 21 years in government and politics, Fleischer said he'll enter the private sector.
He said he's decided his "time has come to leave the White House." Fleischer said he wants to make that move before the president's re-election campaign is in full gear.
He said he's leaving with a lot of happiness, but acknowledges he'll miss some things, such as his time with President George W. Bush. Fleischer said he still believes deeply in Bush and in his policies.
He said the most memorable moments in the White House were when the nation came under attack -- the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and the later series of anthrax attacks.
Fleischer's replacement is expected to be his deputy, Scott McClellan.
