Vegas Q&A: Can I Take Pictures In Casinos?

Question: We are having a debate here about taking pictures in casinos. Is it illegal, frowned upon or perfectly OK?

Jeff in Minneapolis

Ask Rick

Answer: You can take pictures in a casino as long as you are taking general, wide-shot pictures of overall casino and not close-ups on actual machines, tables, or the people gambling at them.

It used to be frowned upon, but since the casinos have become such tourist attractions in and of themselves, they relaxed about the whole thing and now it happens all the time.

Keep in mind, the worst that will happen if you start getting too specific with your camera without intending to is that security will tell you to cut it out. They won't arrest you, confiscate your camera or put you up for public ridicule.

So who wins the debate, and was there any money bet on it? If so, do I get a cut?

(P.S. -- Jeff wrote me back and told me that he in fact won the debate, but there was no cash involved.)
