Evanston, IL -- (Sports Network) - Chad Henne completed 18-of-27 pass attempts for 193 yards and three scores, lifting the Michigan Wolverines to a 28-16 triumph over the Northwestern Wildcats in Big Ten action from Ryan Field.

"I thought he was outstanding," said Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr about Henne's performance. "I thought during the course of this week, he looked good. I think we did a good job of keeping people off of him. He stepped in there a few times and made some good plays. I thought he was just outstanding. I thought he was a big part of being able to come back."

Mario Manningham was Henne's main target, as he pulled down 10 balls for 123 yards and a touchdown. Adrian Arrington also had a solid game, catching seven passes for 90 yards and a score. Mike Hart posted 106 rushing yards and a touchdown on 30 totes, as Michigan (3-2, 2-0 BigTen) won its third straight game following back-to-back losses to open the season.

Omar Conteh paced Northwestern (2-3, 0-2) in defeat with 115 rushing yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. C.J. Bacher had a rough game under center, throwing for 289 yards on 22-of-42 pass attempts, but with three interceptions. Northwestern has now dropped five straight games to the Wolverines.

"I'm proud of the way our men fought and came out and played," stated Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald about his team's effort. "We stressed some things and I saw it today and I'm proud of our young men. Now we need to go out and finish the game to win and I believe we'll do that."

It didn't take long for the Wildcats to strike, as Amado Villarreal nailed a 27-yard field goal just 12:49 into the game.

Michigan responded at the 8:57 mark of the first quarter and took the lead behind a Henne 11-yard touchdown pass to Manningham.

With 2:52 left in the opening frame, the Wildcats regained the lead behind a Conteh 49-yard touchdown run.

Villarreal nailed a 49-yard field goal just 12 seconds into the second quarter and then he connected on a 27-yard attempt on the last play before the break, as Northwestern took a 16-7 advantage into the break.

Henne hooked up with Carson Butler for a five-yard touchdown pass and Michigan trailed just 16-14 with 5:45 to play in the third quarter.

The Wolverines took the lead, 21-16, with 9:53 to go in the final period, as Henne threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Arrington.

With 4:31 left in the contest, Michigan put the game away behind a Hart one- yard touchdown run.

Northwestern out-gained Michigan 417-380, but the Wildcats committed five turnovers compared to none by the Wolverines.
