NCAA Game Summary - Eastern Michigan At Michigan

POSTED: Saturday, October 6, 2007

(Sports Network) - Mike Hart ran for 215 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Michigan Wolverines to a 33-22 victory over the Eastern Michigan Eagles at the Big House.

With his performance, Hart becomes the all-time career rushing leader at Michigan (4-2) with 4,655 yards, moving past Anthony Thomas (4,472). It was Hart's sixth consecutive 100-yard rushing effort. Chad Henne returned from a three-week injury layoff and threw for 195 yards and a touchdown, but was also intercepted twice. Adrian Arrington had his first career 100-yard receiving day, catching six passes for 102 yards and a score.

EMU (2-4) redshirt sophomore quarterback Andy Schmitt completed 15-of-28 passes for 108 yards and an interception. He led the team in rushing with 41 yards and a touchdown.

K.C. Lopata got the Wolverines on the board first with a 31-yard field goal midway through the first quarter.

With 1:53 to play in the opening quarter, Henne capped off a 99-yard drive by tossing a 31-yard scoring strike to Arrington to put the Wolverines ahead, 10-0.

EMU answered with a Zach Johnson 25-yard field goal in the final seconds of the first quarter.

Hart scored the first of his three touchdowns on a four-yard dash at the 6:56 mark of the second stanza, although the extra-point attempt was blocked and returned by EMU's Ryan Downard, making it a 16-5 game.

On the ensuing possession, the Eagles drove 56 yards in 11 plays, resulting in a 41-yard field goal by Johnson to make it a one-possession game.

EMU recovered an on-side kick to start the second half, and Schmitt scored on a 10-yard scamper with 10:31 remaining in the third quarter, although the Eagles failed to tie the game on the two-point attempt.

From there, the Wolverines took over, as Hart scored on a 24-yard run with 6:59 remaining in the quarter.

Lopata added a 36-yard field goal at the 3:13 mark of the third.

The Eagles lost a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, and Hart capitalized by scoring on a 17-yard run on the very next play to open up a 33-14 lead for Michigan.

EMU scored on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Kyle McMahon to Tyrone Burke in the final minute of regulation, as the Eagles tallied their most points ever against their in-state rival.

Led by Hart's historic effort, the Wolverines' ground game was too much for the Eagles to handle, as Michigan averaged 6.9 ypc as a team and churned out 255 yards on the ground.
