Ann Arbor, MI -- (Sports Network) - Chad Henne threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Michigan Wolverines to a 48-14 victory over the Purdue Boilermakers in a Big Ten Conference tilt at Michigan Stadium.
Mario Manningham was the main target for Henne, as the wide out grabbed eight passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns. Mike Hart led Michigan (5-2, 3-0 BigTen) with 102 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Hart suffered a minor injury in the contest and gave way to Carlos Brown, who collected 66 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries.
Hart appeared to hurt his right ankle in the first half and sat out the final 30 minutes with Michigan already holding a 31-7 lead at the break.
"I really don't know much," Michigan coach Lloyd Carr said of the injury. "We'll know a lot more Monday or Tuesday. It is the type of injury where dependent on how much swelling and how he feels in these next couple of days will really be the determining factor on what it looks like in terms of him coming back to play. He's a tough guy, a quick healer and we'll just have to see."
Curtis Painter had a terrible outing for Purdue (5-2, 1-2), throwing for only 113 yards to go along with two interceptions. The ground game for Purdue was atrocious as the team finished with only 39 yards on 25 attempts.
The Wolverines struck first in this Big Ten battle, as Henne hit Manningham with a 24-yard scoring strike midway through the opening quarter.
Following a turnover by Henne, the Boilermakers evened the score on one play, as Painter scampered into the end zone on a five-yard run.
Michigan took a 10-7 lead after capping off a 10-play, 51-yard drive with a 34-yard field goal by K. C. Lopata.
Less than two minutes later, Hart used tremendous athleticism, scoring on an 11-yard run to extend Michigan's lead to 17-7.
The Wolverines pushed their lead to 24-7 when Hart scampered into the end zone on a nine-yard run midway through the second quarter.
In the final seconds of the first half, Henne and Manningham hooked up once again, this time the tandem connected on a 21-yard scoring strike, which pushed the Wolverines lead to 31-7.
The Wolverines continued to pile on the points in the third frame, as Lopata nailed a 35-yard field goal.
Seconds into the final quarter the score was pushed to 41-7 in favor of Michigan, when Carlos Brown found the end zone on a 29-yard run.
Brown found the end zone once again minutes later, as the tailback scored on a one-yard run.
A one-yard touchdown run by Frank Halliburton and a four-yard pass play from Joey Elliot to Dorien Bryant in the final minute of the fourth quarter cut the Purdue deficit to 48-21. However, that would be as close as the Boilermakers would come, as the team fell to 1-2 in league play.
Despite missing part of the game, Hart still managed to eclipse the 1,000- rushing-yard milestone for the season. He also moved into a tie for third place on Michigan's career rushing touchdown list, matching Chris Perry (2000-03) with 39 runs to the end zone.
