Streaking Red Wings Begin Road Trip At Vancouver
(Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings will bring their winning streak on the road when they open a three-game trek this evening against the Vancouver Canucks at GM Place.
Detroit has won four straight and handed the San Jose Sharks a 5-1 loss on Friday at Joe Louis Arena. Henrik Zetterberg scored twice to lead the way, while Valtteri Filppula, Andreas Lilja and Kirk Maltby each lit the lamp.
Zetterberg has nine goals this season and increased his point-scoring streak to 11 games in 2007-08. Tomas Holmstrom had two assists in the win and netminder Chris Osgood made 10 saves and added an assist.
Detroit played the game without veteran goaltender Dominik Hasek, who is out indefinitely with a sore hip. Osgood then made the start between the pipes and came just 5:52 from his first shutout of the campaign.
The Red Wings, who have outscored the opposition 17-7 during the winning streak, will also visit Edmonton and Calgary on the trip.
Vancouver ended a two-game slide with Friday's 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center, and finished 2-2 on a four-game road trip.
Taylor Pyatt scored twice and Daniel Sedin added the other goal for the Canucks, who registered just their second victory in the last six games. Goaltender Roberto Luongo made 26 saves in a winning cause.
The Canucks are back at home for two games against Detroit and Nashville.
Detroit recorded a 3-2 win over the Canucks last Wednesday at Joe Louis Arena, as Holmstrom scored twice and Hasek stopped 13 shots.
The Red Wings have won four of the last seven matchups with Vancouver, which has won six of the last nine meetings as the host.
