Tigers' Inge Doesn't Want To Be Backup

POSTED: Saturday, December 8, 2007
UPDATED: 12:00 pm EST December 9, 2007

Brandon Inge's days as a Detroit Tiger could be numbered.

The Tigers appear prepared to deal the veteran third baseman.

President and General Manager Dave Dombrowski said Inge loves the city and the organization.

But he'd like to continue his career as an everyday third baseman, and Dombrowski said he's willing to oblige him.

Inge will be giving up the regular third baseman's job to All-Star Miguel Cabrera, picked up this week in an eight-player trade with the Florida Marlins.

Inge, 30, joined the Tigers in 2001 as a catcher.

But Dombrowski said Inge doesn't want to go back to that position.
