POSTED: Saturday, March 8, 2008

(Sports Network) - Shane Dansby scored 16 points, and Belmont ripped Jacksonville, 79-61, to win the Atlantic Sun Tournament and gain an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Justin Hare and Matthew Dotson scored 14 points apiece for the top-seeded Bruins (25-8), who won the Atlantic Sun tourney for the third straight year. Alex Renfroe scored 10 points for Belmont, which will take a 13-game winning streak into the NCAA Tournament.

Aric Brooks scored 13 points to lead the second-seeded Dolphins (18-13), who were 1-8 all-time in the A-Sun tourney before this week. Lehmon Colbert scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds, and Travis Cohn added nine points for Jacksonville, which had won five of six prior to the title game.

The Bruins pulled away in the first half with a 20-6 run. Andy Wicke drained back-to-back three-pointers on the run, and Renfroe added another trey. Jon House closed the push out with two free throws, boosting Belmont to a 29-14 lead with 7:51 left in the half.

The Bruins pushed their lead to 45-23 by the intermission.

Belmont kept pouring it on after the break. Jacksonville cut to within 21 points on an Evan Jefferson three, but the Bruins responded with a 14-5 push, capped by a Hare trey, and the Belmont lead reached 62-32 with 13:20 left in regulation.

The Bruins coasted to the 18-point victory, and another NCAA tourney bid, from there.
