BRIGHTON, Mich. -

Some metro Detroit kids will discover first hand what it's like to be on the slopes with an Olympian.

Karly Piper Shorr, 19, of Milford will return to Mt. Brighton, the place where she got her start, Thursday.

Shorr placed sixth in women's slopestyle at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.  It was one of 12 new sports for the winter games.

Shorr began snowboarding while attending Milford High School and spent a lot of time at Mt. Brighton. She won the 2010 Michigan High School Snowboarding Association Boardercross State Championship.

Thursday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Shorr will ride Mt. Brighton's new terrain park with area kids, then sign autographs and take pictures.  The event to meet Shorr is free to the public but lift tickets will be required for skiing or snowboarding.

"I'm looking forward to coming back to Mt. Brighton to ride with the kids on the new terrain park designed by Snow Park Technologies and Vail Resorts," said Shorr. "I've been hearing all kinds of great things about the new park. I can't wait - it's going to be epic!"

Mt. Brighton is located at  4141 Bauer Road in Brighton.
