Jessica Smith appears much happier with the outcome of her second Olympic race.

Smith, 30, a short track speed skater, made it to the final round of the women's 1500 meters Saturday before finishing seventh.

The Melvindale native qualified for three races in Sochi, Russia; the 500 meter, 1000 meter and the 1500 meter events.

She wiped out during the first round of the 500 meter on Monday and failed to qualify.

"Well ended up 7th in the 1500m. Had some good races and one that wasn't amazing. Made it to the B final but good gosh I need an A final before I leave these Olympics! Thank you all for the support and the messages! Xoxo"

Smith competes in the 1000 meter race on Friday February 21.

Her parents, Rick and Reina Smith and her younger brother Travis, are in Sochi to watch her compete.
