AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- A 31-year-old Taylor man accused of throwing a coin at a player during a Detroit Pistons game faced misdemeanor charges Wednesday.
Dennis Wayne Pauley (pictured, left) was charged with violating a city ordinance of throwing an object and occupying a seat without a ticket, Local 4 reported. Investigators said Pauley moved to a grandstand seat near the end of Tuesday night's game between the Pistons and the Philadelphia 76ers at The Palace of Auburn Hills, where a season-ticket holder witnessed him throwing a quarter at player Allan Iverson.
Iverson, of the Philadelphia 76ers, filed a police report, but said he does not want to pursue felony assault charges, Local 4 reported. Iverson also told authorities that he does not blame Pistons fans for the incident, only the man involved.A warrant for Pauley and a friend who attended the game with him is expected to be signed Wednesday afternoon, Local 4 reported. Both men could face jail time or fines if convicted of the misdemeanor charges.A former girlfriend of Pauley said he is a nice guy, but has problems and does "stupid" things."He probably thought it was a joke or something," said the unidentified woman. The woman said Pauley's family was really upset when they heard about the incident.Police are looking for fans who witnessed the incident at Tuesday night's game for their investigation, including the season-ticket holder who identified Pauley to authorities as the man who threw the coin. Police said the woman left before they had her identification.Anyone who may have witnessed the incident should call Auburn Hills police at (248) 370-9444.
