Retiring Red Wings Captain's Career Highlighted

A special collector's issue of Sports Illustrated commemorating the career of Detroit Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman hit newsstands on Thursday.Yzerman recently announced his retirement from the National Hockey League.The 84-page magazine, with a limited press run of 300,000 copies, features an action shot of Yzerman on the cover reading, "YZERMAN ... A Tribute to Stevie Y."
The special edition will be sold throughout Michigan, with some distribution in Ontario, Minnesota and Wisconsin at a cover price of $6.99. Retailers include Meijer, Kroger, Wal-Mart, Target, Borders, Barnes & Noble, 7-Eleven and Walgreen's.In honor of Yzerman's career and community involvement, Sports Illustrated will donate a portion of the proceeds from each issue sold to the Detroit Red Wings Foundation, according to the magazine. The magazine will make a minimum total donation of $10,000.Highlights of the special issue include:Stevie's Wonder Years: In his 22 seasons in Detroit, Yzerman was the consummate franchise player.
