Getting to Atlanta for next weekend’s NCAA Final Four basketball tournament is proving to be a pricey proposition.
University of Michigan fans, looking to make travel arrangements after Sunday’s victory over the Florida Gators, will pay top dollar for airlines and hotels.
You can drive the 722 miles to Atlanta in just under 12 hours. Round trip fuel costs will be about $226.00
Popular travel search sites like Travelocity.com show the cheapest flight out Friday is about $650.00 with airfare+hotel packages starting at $764.00.
But that figure may be misleading. Many of the top hotels near the Georgia Dome are already booked. We found the Holiday Inn Northwest with a rate of $287 and the Atlanta Marriott at $219, but both are nearly 8 miles from the site of the tournament.
The Motel 6 at Hartsfield airport listed rooms starting at $120 per night.
Tickets are being offered through the University of Michigan to basketball season ticket holders only. Tickets for the two semifinal games and the national championship cost $310.
All other fans interested in attending the Final Four should look to obtain tickets through the NCAA website . Tickets on the NCAA website run between $200.00 - $900.00
The University of Michigan Alumni Association has partnered with Conlin Travel to offer fans a Final Four Tour. There are packages that include charter air, four nights at the official team hotel and a game ticket. Full details on the tours can be found at www.michigansportstours.com.
The NCAA has set aside 700 floor level tickets behind the Michigan Pep Band for use by student season ticket holders for U of M men’s basketball.
Stubhub.com lists Lower side seats in Row 25 at $3,975.00 Tickets in the Upper End are going for $625.00 each.
