Detroit boxing legend Emanuel Steward laid to rest Tuesday

Funeral for famed Detroit Kronk Gym owner Emanuel Steward held at Greater Grace Temple Church

DETROIT – The funeral for one of Detroit's greatest boxing trainers was Tuesday at the Greater Grace Temple Church.

Emanuel Steward, the owner of the legendary Kronk Gym, died on Oct 25th. He was 68.

Church spokesman Melvin Epps said a family hour will be held at 11 a.m.

The funeral service followed at noon. The church is located on Seven Mile Road in Detroit.

The International Boxing Hall of Famer made his name training Thomas Hearns at the Kronk Gym in Detroit.

He worked with a long line of champion boxers such as champion Lennox Lewis and current heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.
