Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was suspended two games for stomping an opponent in a Thanksgiving Day loss to Green Bay.

The league on Thursday announced the suspension of Suh, who was ejected from Thursday's game after shoving Packers offensive lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith’s head into the turf and stomping on him.

Suh reportedly called NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to apologize for his actions. He was suspended without pay, costing Suh $164,000.

In a statement announcing Suh's suspension, the league said it was his fifth violation of on-field rules. Should Suh appeal the penalty, which he reportedly is planning to do, an expedited hearing will be held prior to this weekend's games.

The No. 2 overall pick in 2010, Suh has accumulated $42,500 in fines during his first two seasons and was been accused of dirty play throughout his brief NFL career.

The Lions (7-4) have a tough test against New Orleans in Week 13 before facing NFC North rival Minnesota in Week 14.
