COLLEGE PARK, Md. -

Becky Burke scored 14 points, Shawnta' Dyer had 13, and seventh-seeded Louisville beat 10th-seeded Michigan State 67-55 Saturday in the first round of the NCAA women's tournament.

The Cardinals rattled the Spartans with speed and defense, forcing 14 turnovers and pulling away with a 16-2 run late in the first half.

The Cardinals improved to 23-9. The Spartans finish the season at 20-12.

The game marked the return of Louisville coach Jeff Walz to College Park. Walz was an assistant coach on the Terrapins' national title team in 2006 before taking the top job with the Cardinals in 2007.

Walz will face his old team when Louisville and Maryland play in the second round Monday night. The second-seeded Terrapins beat Navy 59-44 earlier Saturday.
