Red Wings look for revenge with Blues
Red Wings hope to put away 6-0 defeat on opening night as Blues visit Joe Louis Arena
After defeating Dallas 4-1 on Tuesday following a 2-1 loss to the Stars a week before, the Detroit Red Wings will have a chance to avenge another early loss when they host the St. Louis Blues on Friday.
The Blues defeated Detroit 6-0 in St. Louis to open the season, but the Red Wings are 3-1-1 since. Detroit rookie Damien Brunner scored his team-leading third goal of the season on Tuesday and has a point in each of the last four games. Captain Henrik Zetterberg, who played with Brunner in Switzerland during the lockout, has an assist on all of Brunner’s tallies thus far, while Pavel Datsyuk leads the Red Wings with eight points.
Rookie Vladimir Tarasenko scored his fifth goal of the season in the Blues’ 4-1 victory in Columbus on Thursday. Tarasenko, a 2010 first-round pick, leads St. Louis with nine points. The Blues have won four straight since losing 3-2 in Chicago, with goaltenders Brian Elliott and Jaroslav Halak earning two wins apiece. Elliott started on Thursday, meaning Halak, who already has posted two shutouts, likely will get the start on Friday. Halak earned his first shutout of the season against Detroit, making 14 saves. Defensemen Alex Pietrangelo and Kevin Shattenkirk have eight points apiece and 15 assists combined.
