The New York Jets want wide receiver Santonio Holmes to agree to a reduction in his base salary for next season as they continue to negotiation a deal, ESPNNewYork.com reported Friday.
The Jets are asked Holmes to reduce his $11 million base salary to help the team's salary cap situation, according to the report.
At the moment, his cap number is $12.5 million, but if the Jets release Holmes, they still would be responsible for most of that money.
Holmes is guaranteed $7.5 million in 2013.
Injuries limited Holmes to four games and 20 receptions in 2012.
