With just nine days until the Detroit Tigers home opener, fans are learning the team’s success will cost them more.
As of Wednesday, the cheapest tickets on secondary market sites like StubHub were $123.
More than 5,000 tickets are still available on the site with some going into the $2,000s. Tickets to the remaining games of the series on Saturday and Sunday were much more affordable.
Ticket prices to see the defending American League champions went up across the board.
The price hike is driven by the team’s $148 million player payroll for the season.
The Tigers home opener at Comerica Park is against the New York Yankees on Friday, April 5 at 1:05 p.m.
