It's no surprise the top five highest paid teams include four European football clubs and the Los Angeles Lakers, but where do the Detroit pro sports teams fall on the list?

The Detroit Tigers are ranked the 27th highest paid team with an average annual pay of $4,562,069 -- less than half of Barcelona's top annual payroll of $8,680,569.

The Detroit Pistons rank 31st with a $4,173,115 average annual pay. The Detroit Red Wings are 99th with a $2,525,600 average annual payroll and the Detroit Lions' average annual payroll of $2,405,882 puts them at 105 overall.

Prince Fielder adds to Tigers payroll

When the Tigers picked up first-baseman Prince Fielder in the offseason, his nine-year, $214 million contract helped keep them in the top 30 list of highest paid teams.

Fielder is the highest-paid player on the roster, which says a lot considering the team has not been shy about handing out lofty contracts in recent years.

In 2008, Miguel Cabrera signed an eight-year, $185.3 million contract with the team. At the time, it was the franchise's biggest contract. Of course, Fielder's surpassed it.

In 2010, Detroit pitching ace Justin Verlander signed an $80 million, 5 year contract extension with the team.
