San Francisco Giants will head to Detroit with 2-0 lead over Tigers in World Series

SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco Giants have taken a 2-0 lead in the World Series after defeating the Detroit Tigers 2-0 Thursday night.

Madison Bumgarner pitched two-hit ball over seven innings and Brandon Crawford drove in the go-ahead run with a double-play grounder after a key bunt stopped just fair along the third-base line.

Bumgarner, who lost both his starts in the NL playoffs, struck out eight and walked two, and Santiago Casilla and Sergio Romo finished with perfect relief.

Hunter Pence led off the seventh with a single off Doug Fister, and reliever Drew Smyly walked Brandon Belt. Gregor Blanco's bunt stopped on the dirt up the third-base line, 3 to 4 inches fair. With the infield in at the corners, Crawford grounded to second baseman Omar Infante.

Pence added a sacrifice fly in the eighth off Octavio Dotel.

The Giants will travel to Detroit for Game 3 on Saturday and Game 4 on Sunday at Comerica Park.

1st inning:

Bumgarner started the game pitching to Austin Jackson, who struck out looking. Omar Infante also struck out. Miguel Cabrera was up with 2 outs and no men on. He grounded out to 3rd base to end the side.

Doug Fister started the night by striking out Angel Pagan. He then got Marco Scutaro out and popped up Wednesday night's hero, Pablo Sandoval, to end the inning.

2nd inning:

Prince Fielder led off. He was hit by a pitch and took his base. Delmon Young shot one up the 3rd base line. Fielder was waved around to home but was thrown out at the plate. Young stayed at 2nd base. Peralta popped up on the next pitch for the 2nd out. Avisail Garcia then struck out, Bumgarner's third K of the night.

Buster Posey led off the second half of the inning with a base hit. Hunter Pence flew out to center where Jackson made the catch. Fister struck out Brandon Belt for the 2nd out. Gregor Blanco lined one back to Fister, who was struck in the head by the ball. The ball deflected out to center field. Blanco was safe at 1st. Fister stayed in the game. He walked Brandon Crawford to load the bases. Bumgarner popped up to left to end the inning, stranding Posey.

3rd inning:

Catcher Gerald Laird led off the inning with Fister on deck. Laird popped up to left where Blanco made the catch. Fister struck out. Jackson also struck out, swinging.

The Giants led off from the top of the order. Pagan grounded to 1st base. Scutaro grounded to short stop and Peralta threw him out at 1st. Sandoval grounded out to end the inning.

4th inning:

Omar Infante led off with a base hit. Crawford could not make a play on it. Cabrera lined one to 3rd base where Sandoval caught it for the out. Prince Fielder blasted one to deep left center, but Blanco caught near the wall. Delmon Young was up to bat. Infante tried to steal 2nd but was tagged before he could slide into the bag. That ended the side.

Posey popped up to right where Young made the catch. Pence flew out to center where Jackson caught it on the run. Belt grounded out to end the inning.

5ht inning:

Delmon Young struck out swinging -- Bumgarner's 6th K of the night. Peralta popped up to right field where Pence made the catch. Garcia grounded out to end the side.

Blanco grounded out. Crawford also grounded out. Fister got of the inning without any damage.

6th inning:

Gerald Laird led off with Fister on deck. Jackson was in the hole. Bumgarner struck out Laird, his 7th K of the night. Fister grounded out. Jackson walked. Infante struck out swinging to end the side, stranding Jackson.

Angel Pagan flew out to center where Jackson made the catch. Scutaro popped up into foul territory where Cabrera made the catch. Sandoval hit a 2-out single. Posey flew out to right field where Young made the catch to end the inning.

7th inning:

Cabrera led off the inning. He walked after a tough at-bat. Fielder hit into a double play. Bumgarner then got Young to ground out to end the side.

Fister remained on the mound for the Tigers. Hunter Pence led off with a base hit. Fister was pulled with a man on and no outs. LH Drew Smyly took over. Smyly walked Brandon Belt. Runners were at 1st and 2nd with no outs. Gregor Blanco's bunt stayed fair to load the bases. Crawford grounded into a double play but the runner scored. Ryan Theriot pinch hit for Bumgarner. Theriot struck out to end the inning.

8th inning:

Santiago Casilla entered to pitch for the Giants. Peralta popped up into foul territory where it was caught for the 1st out. Andy Dirks entered to bat in place of Garcia. Dirks grounded to 1st for the 2nd out. Laird grounded out to end the side.

Smyly continued to pitch for the Tigers. He walked Pagan to start the side. Scutaro struck out looking. Pagan stole 2nd on a pitch to Sandoval. The Tigers then intentionally walked Sandoval. Smyly was done. Octavio Dotel came in to pitch for the Tigers. Dotel walked Posey to load the bases. Pence flew out to left center to get Pagan home. The Giants still had runners at the corners. Dotel was replaced by Phil Coke. Coke got out of the inning without any more damage.

9th inning:

Giants closer Sergio Romo popped up Quintin Berry for the first out. Jackson also struck out. Romo put the game away by popping up Infante.
