Max Scherzer thanks Tigers in full-page Free Press ad

Scherzer signed 7-year deal with Nationals

DETROIT – Former Tigers' pitcher Max Scherzer used a full-page advertisement in Sunday's Detroit Free Press to thank the organization and its fans for their support during his tenure in the Motor City.

"Thank you to Mr. Ilitch and the Tigers organization, teammates and most of all the Detroit fans. We accomplished some amazing things and had many unbelievable moments that we'll never forget. It was a privilege and an honor to don the Old English D," the ad read.

It was signed by Scherzer and his wife, Erica.

The 2013 Cy Young Award winner signed a $210 million megadeal with the Washington Nationals last week after spending the last five seasons in Detroit. From 2010 to 2014, Scherzer racked up 82 wins and posted a 3.52 ERA for the Tigers en route to four division titles and an appearance in the 2012 World Series.

Scherzer was responsible for 19.3 percent of the Tigers' wins over the last four years, highlighted by a 2013 campaign in which he went 21-3.
