Tigers battle Chris Sale, White Sox in bounce back effort

CHICAGO – Shane Greene and the Detroit Tigers gifted the struggling White Sox a win in the series opener Tuesday, walking three straight batters to lose an early lead and fall 5-2.

The White Sox came into the series looking utterly defeated, but now they're in perfect position to win the series behind ace Chris Sale.

Sale beat the Tigers back in mid-April with six two-run innings. But since then, he's allowed nine hits in back-to-back outings and got bounced after three innings in Minnesota, allowing eight earned runs.

Detroit will be tasked with handing Sale his third straight winless start.

First Pitch: 8:10 p.m. on FSD

Alfredo Simon will toe the rubber for the Tigers, coming off his first rough start of the year. Simon carried a 4-0 record into Kansas City before the Royals hit him with six earned runs and his first loss.

A loss Wednesday would hand Detroit its first series loss to an AL Central opponent this season. If they can beat Sale, the Tigers will face Jose Quintana for the series win Thursday afternoon.
