Tigers look for series sweep Sunday against Mets

Game starts Sunday at 1:10 p.m.

NEW YORK – The Tigers are looking to bring out the broom and sweep the Mets in Sunday's game. Both teams battle at the Citi Field in New York at 1:10 p.m.

Max Scherzer got the job done on the mound and at the plate Saturday as the Tigers shut out the Mets 3-0 Saturday.

Scherzer pitched six shut-out innings, allowed three hits and struck out 11 en route to his league-leading 19th win of the season.

Scherzer also had an RBI double in the 2nd inning to score the Tigers' first run of the game.

In the All-Star match up between Scherzer and Matt Harvey, Scherzer came out on top. Harvey allowed 13 hits and two runs in six plus innings of work.

Scherzer is just the third pitcher to win 19 of his first 20 decisions in a season, joining Rube Marquard for the 1912 Giants and Roger Clemens for the 2001 Yankees according to ESPN Stats.

Austin Jackson brought in another run in the 2nd inning on an infield single. Don Kelly finished things up in the 7th on sacrifice fly in the 9th inning that scored Jackson. 

Joaquin Benoit got his 17th save of the year.

Miguel Cabrera reached base for the 27th-straight game.
