Tigers tweak starting rotation for weekend series against White Sox

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers announced Wednesday that they will mix up the starting rotation heading into this weekend's series against the Chicago White Sox.

Detroit will use an off day Thursday to skip Kyle Lobstein's spot in the rotation and pick up with Anibal Sanchez and Shane Greene after David Price's scheduled start on Friday.

Price will kick off the series against new White Sox starter Jeff Samardzija on Friday, with Sanchez now lined up against Chicago ace Chris Sale.

Greene will start the series finale against either Jose Quintana or Hector Noesi.

The move was announced a day after Greene tossed his second straight eight inning gem for the Tigers, allowing no earned runs.

In his only start of the season, Lobstein allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks to the Cleveland Indians. He struggled with command throughout five innings, but managed to get the win.

With Justin Verlander rehabbing from injury, it's unclear when Lobstein's next start will fall.

The White Sox enter Wednesday at just 3-4 on the season, 3.5 games behind the Tigers for second place in the AL Central. The two teams are expected to compete with the Royals and Indians for the division crown, and are already using off days to throw their best starters in the first three-game series.

Detroit will play a rubber match against Pittsburgh Wednesday before taking Thursday off. The White Sox are playing the second of a two-game series with the Indians.
