BALTIMORE – Tigers fans got their first look at top prospect Daniel Norris Sunday as the 22-year-old took the mound against the Baltimore Orioles.
Norris was at his best in his Tigers debut, allowing just one run in a career-high 7 1/3 innings pitched. He surrendered four hits and one walk and struck out five. The only blemish against him was a solo home run from Chris Davis in the bottom of the 4th.
J.D. Martinez got the Tigers on the board early with a three-run homer off of starter Ubaldo Jimenez in the 1st inning. The Tigers added three more runs on four straight two-out hits in the top of the 5th, stretching their lead to 6-1.
Anthony Gose, Jose Iglesias and Ian Kinsler each had two hits atop the Tigers' order. J.D. Martinez added two hits and three RBI.
Alex Wilson slammed the door on the Orioles in the 9th.
With the win, the Tigers earned a series split in Baltimore and finished their road trip with a record of 4-6. The Tigers will welcome the first-place Royals to Comerica Park Tuesday after an off day Monday.
