Wolverines, Spartans learn place in NCAA Tournament

Both teams expected to play in Auburn Hills in 1st round

DETROIT – Michigan State has landed the No. 3 seed in the Midwest and will play Valparaiso Thursday at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Michigan is the No. 4 seed in the South Region and will play South Dakota Thursday at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

About the teams: 

Michigan finished the regular season 26-7 overall, 12-6 in the conference. The Wolverines lost in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament to Wisconsin 68-59.

Michigan hasn't reached sweet 16 since 1994.

Michigan State finished their season 25-8 overall, 13-5 in the conference.

The Spartans lost to Ohio State 61-58 in the Big Ten Tournament Semifinals.  Most projections have the Green and White as the #3 seed out of the Auburn Hills pod.  Michigan State has made 15-straight NCAA appearances, and 8 Final Four appearances overall.
