Bruins beat Red Wings, 3-0, to take 2-1 series lead

Game 4 is Thursday night in Detroit

DETROIT – The Boston Bruins shut down the Red Wings on their way to a 3-0 win Tuesday night in Detroit.

Boston now leads the series, 2-1. Game 4 is Thursday night in Detroit.

The Bruins got on the board with a power play goal at 9:00 in the opening period. Dougie Hamilton's shot went top shelf, beating Howard glove side. 

Later in the 1st the Bruins took a 2-0 lead on an ill-advised wholesale line change by the Red Wings. Shawn Thornton found himself with a clear path toward Howard who made a save, but Jordan Caron put the rebound in. 

The Red Wings only had four shots in the 1st period. 

The Red Wings got a great chance in the 2nd period when the Bruins got called for too many men on the ice while they were already on the penalty kill. However, Detroit could not score on the 35-second 5-on-3 advantage. 

Detroit got another power play in the 3rd period when Kevan Miller shot a puck out of the rink from inside his own zone, drawing a delay of game penalty. But the Red Wings could not get one past Rask. 

The Red Wings pulled Howard with just less than 3 minutes to go in the 3rd period, and Patrice Bergeron scored on the empty net. He shot it all the way down the ice from the Bruins zone to ice the game. 

Boston outshot Detroit again, 34-23.
