DETROIT – Detroit Mayor Dave Bing will travel to Atlanta on Saturday to watch Michigan take on his alma mater Syracuse in a Final Four matchup.

Bing's office said the mayor won't be in Atlanta all weekend but hopes to return Monday for the championship game.

"I'm hopeful Syracuse is going to win. Then I'll be coming back, I'm sure, for the championship game," the mayor said. "At the beginning of March Madness, I thought Louisville was the best team. But both Michigan and Syracuse have played much better than I anticipated. They deserve to be there. If Syracuse wins, it's not going to be an easy win for them."

Mayor Bing said he has made a friendly wager with Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr, a Michigan graduate, on the outcome of the game. The mayor was a teammate of current Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim.

The loser of the wager will have to buy dinner for the winner at a restaurant in Detroit.
