Detroit Cass Tech football star Jayru Campbell body slams school security guard to ground

Campbell, a 4-star Michigan State recruit, is in Detroit police custody

DETROIT – Four-star quarterback and Michigan State football recruit Jayru Campbell is in custody after he body slammed a security guard at Detroit Cass Tech High School.

Campbell, a junior and quarterback at Cass Tech, is shown on video slamming the security guard to the ground in a school hallway on Wednesday.

Michelle Zdrodowski, a spokeswoman for Detroit Public Schools, said Campbell will be disciplined internally according to the student code of conduct. Outside of the school, Zdrodowski said Campbell could be charged with misdemeanor assault and battery.

Michigan State University won't comment on whether Campbell's scholarship would be pulled. The university released this statement: "NCAA rules prohibit institutions from commenting on specific prospects until a National Letter of Intent has been signed."

Zdrodowski said the security guard was privately contracted and was examined for any serious injuries at an area clinic.

Last year, Campbell had to be restrained at a game against Catholic Central for allegedly punching a player during the post-game handshake.
