Detroit City FC loses U.S. Open Cup match in PKs

RWB Adria moves on after forcing extra time, winning in penalty kicks

LIVONIA, Mich. – Detroit City FC was leading 2-1 late in the game, but couldn't hold on and ended up falling short in penalty kicks.

RWB Adria scored in the last minute of stoppage time Wednesday night to force extra time in their first round match of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Livonia Stevenson High School.

Adria scored the first goal of the match, but City stormed back. The teams went to extra time tied at 2-2 and needed penalty kicks to decide the match.

Adria jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the PKs. Tyler Arnone scored for City, making it 2-1. It wasn't enough as Adria went on to win, 3-1, in penalty kicks.

It was DCFC's first appearance in the knockout tournament.

Kevin Taylor and Tyler Arnone had the goals for City.

Regular season begins Saturday

City will host the Cincinnati Saints for their home opener at 1 p.m. Saturday.
