DETROIT - The Detroit Lions have released 12-year veteran Kyle Vanden Bosch
Vanden Bosch, 34, was in the final year of his contract with Detroit. He had 3.5 sacks last season which is the lowest total for him since 2009.
Arizona drafted him in 2001 and he was at his best for Tennessee in 2005 and 2007 when he had 12-plus sacks each season.
Vanden Bosch was scheduled to earn $10 million this year. The Lions will save $5 million toward the team's 2013 salary cap by releasing him.
