DETROIT -

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Civic Jazz Orchestra will perform the national anthem at the Tigers game on Sunday.

Ten musicians will perform at the home game against the Cleveland Indians.

The Civic Jazz Orchestra is audition-only and part of DSO's Civic Youth Ensembles that consist of up to 20 musicians between 15 and 20 years of age. They are the top jazz group of those ensembles.

Civic Jazz Orchestra director Kris Johnson has been chosen to throw the first pitch. Johnson is a local performer, composer, arranger and educator. He tours with Count Basie Orchestra and has worked as an artist in residence at Troy High School.

CYE offers training and performance opportunities for students from elementary school through adults. Members receive one-on-one interaction with DSO musicians and internationally renowned artists. They perform in the state-of-the-art facilities of the Max M. Fisher Music Center.

The next CYE season begins in September. Auditions run through August. Those interested in auditioning can email: civic@dso.org
