Detroit Red Wings vs Anaheim Ducks
ANAHEIM, Calif. -

The Anaheim Ducks have taken a 3-2 series lead over the Detroit Red Wings after winning Game 5 Wednesday night in overtime, 3-2.

Nick Bonino was the hero just 1:54 into the overtime period. The teams return to Detroit Friday night for Game 6.

Detroit's Johan Franzen opened the scoring on the power play as he snuck one past Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller.

Anaheim tied it up at 1-1 in the 1st period thanks to a blast from Kyle Palmieri that beat goalie Jimmy Howard. The Ducks were outshooting the Red Wings 18-9 after 20 minutes.

Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg sent a quick shot in on Hiller midway through the 2nd period and Mikael Samuelsson hammered home the rebound to give his team a 2-1 lead. It was nearly 3-1 Red Wings moments later when Damien Brunner was denied by Hiller on a breakaway. Defenseman Brendan Smith then rang one off the post.

Anaheim's Daniel Winnik got a 5-minute major penalty for boarding Daniel Cleary, who briefly left the game injured. Cleary returned for the Red Wings in the 3rd period. Wings rookie Gustav Nyquist hit the post during the ensuing power play.

Detroit could not capitalize on the 5-minute man advantage. It ended when Smith went to the box for interference. Ryan Getzlaf made it 2-2 with a power play goal.

The teams finished the 2nd period tied at 2-2. The Red Wings put 15 shots on Hiller in the 2nd period but the Ducks still led the shots statistic 27-24 after 40 minutes.

Palmieri crashed into Howard in the 3rd period and the puck crossed the goal line. However, the officials waved it off because of the contact with the goaltender.

The teams remained locked in a 2-2 tie as time ran out in regulation.

Nick Bonino's goal came quickly in the overtime period.
