Lions win first game at Lambeau Field since 1991

GREEN BAY, Wisc. – The Detroit Lions shocked the football world Sunday.

Since that 1991 game, the Packers traded for Brett Farve, drafted Aaron Rodgers, and won two Super Bowls. Meanwhile the Lions watched Barry Sanders retire suddenly in his prime, suffered a league-first 0-16 season, and have fired 8 coaches.

Today's game is the Lions first since a 45-10 landslide loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in London two weeks ago. Following that disastrous performance, Lions owner Martha Ford fired team president Tom Lewand and general manager Martin Mayhew.

Quarterback Matt Stafford led the way, completing 24 of 38 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw an interception. Detroit's defense meanwhile held the Packers to just 16 points.

Lions kick returner Ameer Abdullah tied an NFL record with a 104-yard kick return.

Thanks to two missed extra points by Lions kicker Matt Prater, the Packers had a chance to tie the game with a two-point conversion following a touchdown in the final minute of the game. However, Green Bay's two-point try fell short with 32 second left in the game.

After recovering an onside kick, the Packers had another chance to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat but missed a field goal opportunity as time expired.

The Lions head back to Detroit to host the Oakland Raiders (4-4) next Sunday at Ford Field.
