The Detroit Lions have hired former Kansas State head coach Ron Prince as assistant head coach and tight ends coach.

Prince joins the Lions after one season as offensive coordinator for Rutgers University, in which his pro-style offense ranked 85th in the country in yards per game (365.2) and 77th in points per game (26.5).

The 44-year old is the third coach hired under Jim Caldwell, who added defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and linebackers coach Bill Sheridan earlier this week.

Prince has NFL experience with both the Colts and Jaguars, but has never been a tight ends coach.
