Lions lose to Panthers 24-7, fall to 1-1 on season

Detroit score just once in loss

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Detroit Lions lost to the Carolina Panthers 24-7 Sunday despite holding a 7-6 lead in the 3rd quarter.

The Lions dominated the game in the first half, out-gaining the Panthers in yards 197-153. But the team trailed 6-0 at the half because of a Joique Bell fumble and two missed field goals by rookie kicker Nate Freese.

The wide receivers dropped six of Matthew Stafford's passes, and he finished the game with 291 yards and one touchdown. The score was a one-yard pass to fullback Jed Collins.

The Lions will return to Ford Field to battle the division rival Packers next Sunday afternoon.
