DETROIT – The Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans are both ranked in the top 20 of this year's first College Football Playoff rankings, which were released Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Michigan State (8-0) is ranked No. 7 in the initial ranking. Michigan (6-2) comes in at No. 17.

The top four teams at the end of the season will play in the second College Football Playoff, with the winner taking the national championship. According to Tuesday's rankings, the top four teams are Clemson, LSU, Ohio State and Alabama.
