STANFORD, Calif. ( - Trent Garrison had three hits and drove in three runs to help Fresno State top Michigan State 8-2 on Saturday in an elimination game at the Stanford Regional.

The Spartans recorded a triple play in the top of the eighth inning. The Bulldogs had runners on first and second when Ken Wise drilled a ball into the right-center field gap. Anthony Cheky stretched out to make a diving catch and returned the ball to first baseman Ryan Krill in plenty of time to double off both runners, which included a toss to shortstop Justin Scanlon.

Gene Escat (4-0) pitched 2 1-3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory, and Taylor Garrison recorded seven outs for his 11th save.

Andy Waszak (4-4) allowed four runs in seven innings for the Spartans, who played in their first NCAA tournament in 33 years.
