It was an exciting finish at the Marathon Classic as Paula Creamer and Beatriz Recari approached the 18th hole, putting for a possible play off at Highland Meadows in Sylvania, Ohio.

Recari, from Spain, played without any family members present to watch her compete and cheer her on.

The 26 year old Spaniard humbly accepted her victory and when asked about her lack of notoriety on the LPGA Tour, she humbly responded: “I cannot control what others think about me. “All I can do is put a score out there, get these wins and the wins will speak for themselves.”

Recari made 27 cuts in 27 events in 2012, and 13 out of 14 so far for 2013. Creamer who hasn’t won since the Women’s U.S.Open in 2010 continued to draw spectators at the Marathon Classic along with other American LPGA favorites ; Angela Stafford, Lexi Thompson and Stacey Lewis.

Recari’s win greatly improved her chances of qualifying for Europe's Solheim Cup team. She finished with a 17-under 267, one stroke better than Creamer's 268.

Led by Paula Creamer's second-place finish, five Americans finished among the top 10 at the Marathon Classic. Creamer was joined at the top by Lexi Thompson (tie for third place), Angela Stanford (tie fifth), Stacy Lewis (tie seventh) and Jennifer Johnson (tie seventh). These LPGA players are probable U.S. picks for the Solheim Cup Team being held at the Colorado Golf Club, August 13-18th.

"Back and forth, back and forth," Recari said of their Sunday showdown. "It totally felt like the Solheim Cup."

Paula Creamer mentions the encouraging text messages she received from LPGA legends Nancy Lopez and Kathy Whitworth during the Marathon Classic in
Sylvania, Ohio.
