Funeral set for former Red Wings announcer Budd Lynch

Visitation Friday at R. J. Nixon funeral home, funeral is Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church

DETROIT – Funeral arrangements have been set for former Detroit Red Wings announcer Budd Lynch.

Lynch died Tuesday at the age of 95.

Visitation will be Friday from noon to 7 p.m. at the R. J. Nixon funeral home at 2544 Biddle Avenue in Wyandotte. A rosary service will be at 7 p.m.

The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 244 Elm in Wyandotte.

He will lie in state before the funeral service from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked the memorial contributions be made to the Guidance Center's "Budd Lynch Endowment Fund for Children" through the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan.

Checks should be made payable to "CFSEM" with "Budd Lynch" noted on the memo line. Donation envelopes will be available at R.J. Nixon Funeral Home.

Lynch was the public address announcer from 1985 until 2012. He began his career with the Red Wings in 1949 when he served as the team's play-by-play announcer.

He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1985 as a media honoree. In 1994 Lynch was inducted to the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.

Lynch was living in a Nursing Home in Dearborn at the time of his death.
