Whalers beat Spirit 4-2 in Plymouth
Plymouth Whalers snap 7-game losing streak with 4-2 win over Saginaw Spirit
The Plymouth Whalers returned from the holiday break Thursday with a victory over their division rivals Saginaw Spirit, 4-2 at Compuware Arena.
The Whalers had lost seven in a row before Thursday's win.
The Spirit's Eric Locke opened the scoring midway through the 1st period. The Whalers didn't tie it up until early in the 2nd period with a goal from Matthew Mistele. But Saginaw stormed back with a power play goal from Garret Ross.
The Whalers grabbed the lead with a goal apiece from Alex Aleardi and Tom Wilson, only about two minutes apart midway through the 2nd period. Wilson's was a power play goal.
Plymouth added a timely insurance goal late in the 3rd period to secure the victory.
The Whalers (15-11-5-3) are in 6th place in the Western Conference with 38 points. The Spirit (14-17-3-2) are sitting back in 9th place with just 33 points.
Plymouth hosts the 1st place London Knights at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Compuware Arena.
