Meet the new Red Wings coaching staff

Granato returns as assistant while Blashill brings his own assistants from Griffins

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings' new coaching staff is complete.

Tony Granato is returning as an assistant, so he'll be a familiar face behind the bench. Meanwhile, Pat Ferschweiler has been named Jeff Blashill's other assistant. He worked alongside Blashill in Grand Rapids, so he's new to Detroit fans but not to his boss.

Chris Chelios also joins the Red Wings coaching staff and, according to the team, "he will evaluate in-game player performance and offer his insight and observations to Red Wings bench coaches." The rumor was Chelios was looking for a job behind the bench, but he didn't get the assistant job due to his lack of experience in such a role. He'll be getting experience this season, though, as he'll also work as an assistant coach to Ron Wilson at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship in Helsinki, Finland, this December and January.
